  1. Vitamin D is quite likely the most under-rated nutrient – most people don’t know how important it really is.

  3. Vitamin D, which is also known as calciferol, is actually a steroid hormone instead of a true vitamin.
  4. Many people know that your body produces vitamin D when your skin is exposed to sunlight.  But most people don’t realize that the skin must be free of clothing, sunblock, and sunscreen for this process to work.

  11. Calcium absorption (in your intestines) cannot take place without sufficient levels on vitamin D.  Low levels of vitamin D make calcium supplementation futile.
  12. Significant amounts of vitamin D are not found in foods, except possibly in some marine species.  This makes vitamin D “the sunlight vitamin”.
